Completion (of video)
After the filming was completed on Saturday we immediately started the editing process. The majority of Monday was taken up by uploading the 2 hours of footage we had captured (we chose to upload all the footage instead of time logging because of the amount of time we had left) we then stared to edit and synchronise the footage with the recording. A little more editing was done on Tuesday, but the majority was done on Wednesday on the day which we then managed to finish it.

Information aobut the storyboard, the animatic and Filming
Am terribly sorry for the lateness of this post but there seem to have been technical difficulties, this about the third time i have attempted to post this exact message.
First of all we discussed some of the elements that we thought should be included within the music video, and then shortlisted from the list that we created (this list included animation, pyrotechnics, modelling etc.) after this shortlist we began storyboarding seperately until we eventually amalgamated certain parts of both storyboards into the final one. For the animatic we took photos of each frame from the storyboard which we then imported into I-Movie and changed the times etc. of the shots to fit with the song. Basically the idea for the music video was to have some narrative inter-cut with performance shots and then towards the end include production shots within this inter-cutting. The inclusion of these performance shots means that whoever watches the video sees the band performing and what they look like, therefore marketing the bands image and performance skills as well as their sound. We tried to keep their image as what they feel comfortable in, but it made sense to have it smart casual as there is then elements of both comfort and looking well presented.
Once the animatic was finished we found there was going to be very little time for producing the props we would need for the narrative parts of the film, therefore because of this we had to think about whether or not it would be worth it actually producing these props or concentrating more on the bands performance etc. in the end we decided that to produce these props would take too much time out
We managed to get the band together for an entire day yesterday, which obviously allowed us to film performance and production shots. Now that we have got the rushes for this, the next step is going to be editing which we are hoping to do tomorrow. Shooting went as well as could have been expected, one location had a fairly short time limit in which we could use it, however in spite of this we managed to get a good amount of shots from this location as well as from location two. From the day of shooting we managed to get just over 2 hours of footage which hopefully will give us enough to make into a music video for the band.

Coming up to shooting time
We have finally finished both the storyboard and the animatic, the animatic is fairly simple but still gives a rough idea on what the final piece will look like. Unfortunately due to a large amount of work that me and Jay have had recently it has been difficult to add to the blog and keep up with everything that needs doing, luckily I managed to get us back on track by getting the design of a CD Cover sorted (well technically 4 different Cover designs) which will be/are at the bottom of this blog with the other photos (the backs hopefully will be included soon) please leave any comments about whichever cover you prefer. There has been some dispute over these CD Covers so any help at all about your favourite's would be greatly appreciated!

Lack of Updates
Hey there, sorry for the lack of updates to the blog recently, both steve and myself have been very busy, we've been in london for a few days on an english and drama trip, this has slowed our production cnsiderably, we are still in the process of storyboarding and thinking of new ideas and hope to be filming some footage very soon.

Pre-Production Begins
Okay so the recording of the bands material has been completed so that means that the longest part begins, Pre-production. Me and Jake have both started to storyboard our own ideas and once both these storyboards are finished we will pick the one that we both think fits the song and is easiest to complete within our restricted time frame.
After picking the storyboard we will create an animatic to sort out timing with the song and how long each scene/frame needs to be. Hopefully after this actual production will begin for the narrative based and non-narrative based side of the video.

Recording Continues
Recording the bands material continued this week, with the guitars being recorded on Friday and the main vocals being recorded today (tuesday). Unfortunately I couldn't be there to help Jay oversee the recording on Friday as I was in London seeing Mozart's "Magic Flute" which by the way is amazing! I was however there to keep track of the vocals recording, obviously the finished product wasn't good enough for the singer but it actually went very well and just leaves us with backing vocals left to record.

Production Started
This afternoon we started to record the bands material, this was the first time they had had a Multi-Track recording and were very pleased with the progress. Although we currently only have the drums and bass down with a guitar track (that may be re-done) we are confident that it will sound very professional when finished. We also took a few photos they are on the left so take a look!

Ideas
Part of our production period involves research and here are some of the narrative based ideas we studied before proceeding with planning etc.

Things that needed considering
There were many things that we had to consider before even starting the production of the music video, for example:
We had a major problem with copyright for this project. Jacob had wanted to use a song from an already well known artist, however had we done this then we would have had to get in touch with the bands recording company and get the copyright agreement for that song. This would of taken up a massive amount of our production time, therefore a decision was made not to use a major artist and instead decided upon using a local unsigned band "Past the Post".
Another problem that we encountered was the fact that this band didn't actually have any recorded material of any kind. However this problem actually worked out to be a good thing because it meant that we have had to do a Multi-Track recording of the band so that it has suitable quality. The good thing about this is that Jake needed a Multi-Track recording for a piece of Music Technology coursework and so 'killed two birds with one stone' and got both projects done at once.
Having said that, it proved too difficult to get the whole of the band together to record on a night that suited all of them and both of us. So we had to record the songs in two parts and mix them together at a later date.

Brief
This blog is a well documented diary of events regarding the production of a music video, CD cover and magazine article/cover to illustrate the new A2 level syllabus.
